PHILOSOPHY

Recognizing that the student must be the focal point of any educational program we are aware that all members of the school community must take an active part in helping to promote, improve, and evaluate educational policies and program. Our philosophy, therefore, is to recognize the inherent abilities of all students by affirming the educational goal of helping students to recognize and to fulfill their responsibilities.

Since career and technology education must meet the interests and needs of all persons in the community, it should complement rather than compete with general educational. Our task is to help our youth acquire skills and training that will enhance their opportunities for employment once they graduate from New Dominion. As an educational institution, we are committed to serving young people in every attempt to meet their needs in socially accepted patterns of our complex society.

GOALS To create an atmosphere in which students can learn and develop to their maximum abilities. To keep lines of communication open among students, teachers, administration, home, and community. To provide opportunities for effective preparation for training that will lead to employment or further schooling. To strive for good citizenship by emphasizing respect for authority and the feelings and opinions of others. To provide equal opportunities for all students.

The general woodworking and maintenance program includes instruction and working experiences in carpentry, construction and woodcrafting. General maintenance includes introductory courses in painting and finishing, general repair and plumbing. The program in Small Engine Repair and maintenance covers ground maintenance, landscaping, equipment operation and repair.
