Mathematics Department

Academic success with confidence and self-esteem

PHILOSOPHY

The math program at New Dominion's School actively embraces the education and development of our students with the belief that a student's self-esteem, confidence, and education are interrelated each being vital to the other parts. As a student's math skills, problem solving and conceptual knowledge grow and develop, he gains confidence, and as a result, attains a more positive attitude toward learning. As a student becomes successful in his math pursuits, a greater awareness of one's potential is realized, helping a student overcome previous difficulties in various subject areas.

The math department seeks to stimulate a student's growth by exposing him to a variety of math skills, applications and technology. By experiencing math, a student becomes more aware of the relevancy and importance of math in our everyday living. As a student's math skills and concepts develop he will likely be more successful in the appropriate grade level, post secondary education, vocational training, and/or work force.

GOALS

  • To prepare students for the appropriate grade level, GED Program, college, trade school, or employment.
  • To develop student's math skills and concepts through a number of math related activities.
  • To enhance student's academic self-esteem and confidence through successes in the classroom relating to math skills and concepts.
  • To increase student's knowledge, awareness, and application of math in our everyday experiences, recognizing the importance and practical aspects of math skills and concepts in our world.
