All Students can lead a healthy life

 

PHILOSOPHY

The Health and Physical Education Curriculum has been designed in order to allow our students the opportunity to explore a broad spectrum of health and recreational activities. Through group participation in the various sections of this curriculum, with specific, measurable objectives and learning activities, students are able to develop a balance between physical and mental fitness. Self-esteem and respect of others are reinforced, and the "seeds" are planted for a life-long appreciation of recreation.

 

 HEALTH GOALS

  • Students will comprehend concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to access valid health information and health-promoting products and services.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to practice health-enchancing behaviors and reduce health risks.
  • Students will analyze the influence of culture, meida, technology, and other factors on health
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to use interpersonal communication skills to enhance health.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to use goal-setting and decision-making skills to enhance health.
  • Students will demonstrate the ability to advocate for personal, family, and community health.

 

PHYSICAL EDUCATION GOALS

  • Group and team sports gives a youth an opportunity to have fun, learn to cooperate, and build self-esteem.
  • Many team sports in which a youth participates provides physical exercise that develops coordination and conditioning.
  • Through group sports, the youth learn about himself and others in the context of team effort.
  • Spirit of teamwork carries into the group dynamics and solidifies the ongoing proess of developing stronger relationships.
  • Learning how to play the various team sports helps the student develop new skills and abilities relating to physcial activity.
  • As students participates with others, they learn that team effort contributes greatly to overall success.
  • Group sports occur in a non-threatening atmosphere of mutual support with an emphasis on participation more so than athletic skills or final results.
  • As students participate, they learn to compliment and appreciate each other's efforts, leading to a life-long process of mutual support in any group acitvity
